ped·i·cure (pedəˌkyo͝or) is a cosmetic treatment of the feet and toenails, foot scrub to remove calluses and flaky, dry foot skin, and more.
People have been pedicuring their nails for thousands years. The word pedicure is derived from the Latin words pedis, which means “of the foot”, and cura, which means “care”.
What are some Benefits?
Your feet go through a lot of wear and tear in the course of a lifetime. A pedicure is the routine maintenance necessary to pamper the feet and allow them to comfortably travel many more miles. Though it is possible to give your feet extra attention at home, having a pedicurist attend to them ensures professional care as well as making sure your feet and nails look and feel good. A Pedicure often has a nice side-effect of relaxing you.
Foot treatment is said to help maintain foot health and ward off many problematic and painful foot issues like calluses, heel fissures, ingrown toenails and more.
Who are Pedicures for?
Just about everyone can enjoy the benefits of a Professional Pedicure. This means Men too. In fact, many podiatrists and athletic coaches recommend men receive pedicures as part of a healthy foot care routine. First timers and older children can also benefit from learning proper foot care techniques done by a professional.
Are there different types of Pedicures?
Yes. Some salons will offer just basic trimming and cleaning, while others will offer Massaging chairs, a whirlpool tub for your feet, toe nail enhancements, Gel overlays, foot and leg massage, callus removal and more. Don’t be afraid to ask ahead of time to know what to expect and let them know about any special requests you may have.
What Does A Pedicure Feel Like?
If you have never had a Pedicure, it is easy to image all kinds of things. Just like most experiences in life, everyone has their own way of experiencing a Pedicure. Most people describe the foot treatment as relaxing, but some may say it feels weird or ticklish. If you have never experienced a Salon Pedicure, you should try it at least once to see how it feels for you.
How long does a Pedicure take?
A Spa Pedicure will typically last between 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the condition of your feet and whether or not you choose polish, nail designs, Gel Nails or other add on service. Leave yourself enough time to get the full benefit of a Spa Pedicure.
What happens after?
If you chose not to have your toenails painted, you can put your shoes back on post pedicure and resume life as normal. If you chose to get your nails painted, however, you’ll want to wear flip flops for at least a couple of hours to allow your perfectly painted toenails to fully dry.
